Yasaman Sheri is a designer, writer and educator working at the intersection of science, technology & society. Her practice is rooted in creative and critical inquiry in machine and ecological sensing, exploring new forms of perception enabled by advanced technologies and their cultural, ecological and social implications. Through critical investigations in novel interfaces, hardware, wetware, material science to the design of sensing systems, Sheri’s work reveals complex human nature entanglements and the cultural context in emerging techno ecologies.

TECHNO
Sheri is a Design Leader with decades of experience leading interface design in Hardware, Advanced Sensors and Spatial AI. Her experience spans development of Microsoft Hololens 1 + 2 Core Operating System & gestural interface, Designing Moonshot Interfaces for Google (X), defining Human Computer Interfaces for Computational Storage, Autonomous Robotics & AI, Directing Augmented Intelligence & Domestic AI at IKEA’s research & design studio SPACE10, act as Senior Director of Design leading teams of prototypers and designers on Core OS for Magic Leap 2 and Leading Inputs & Interactions in Multimodal Agentic AI Llama and micro-gesture interfaces for EMG sensing of Neural Band.


SCIENCE
Sheri is currently the Principal Investigator of the Synthetic Ecologies Lab at Serpentine Galleries creating platforms, tools & spaces that support critical & artistic inquiry in to Life Sciences.  Recipient of the Ginkgo Bioworks Biotechnology Residency, she collaborates closely with scientists, researchers, engineers & synthetic biologists to develop novel protein-based Biological Sensors. Sheri is Research Affiliate at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering working on Vernacular Biotechnologies. Sheri defines and shape creative-led biology & ecological R&D.

PEDEGOGY
Sheri is an educator and currently Associate Professor of Graduate Design at Art Center College of Design teaching Critical Design in AI, Sensing & Inputs in Media Design Practices (MDP) at and Interaction Design programmes. She has been long time faculty at Copenhagen Institute for Interaction Design (CIID) and professor and critic at Graduate Industrial Design Program at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She is a frequent visiting faculty at many design institutions including ZhDK, UPenn, UCLA, Parsons, School of Visual Arts, Stanford to name a few.


ADVISORY
Sheri advises and juries such programmes and institutions as TBA21, European Commissions S+T+ARTS program, NEW INC. ,Frame Documentary, UCLA Graduate thesis, IxDA, Core77, Umea Graduate Degree, Mozilla Labs and continues to mentor young professionals passionate about critical and creative inquiry in Science and Technology.
Through deep cross-disciplinary collaboration across Industry, Research, Science, Design and Art, Sheri continues to cultivate and shape not-yet-defined spaces.
